Bangalore has a deep bench of henna talent — which also means it's easy to book the wrong fit. Ask these questions before you confirm.
Availability and logistics
- Is my exact date free, and how many brides do you take that weekend?
- Will you personally apply my mehndi, or an associate? Can I meet them?
- Do you travel to my venue/home, and is travel charged separately?
Henna quality and safety
- What henna will you use — brand, and is it natural, body-art-quality?
- Will you do a patch test with that henna 2–3 days before?
- Is the paste freshly mixed for my booking?
Design, coverage and time
- Based on my references, what style do you recommend, and how many hours will it take?
- What exactly is included — hands only, hands + feet, up to the wrist / mid-forearm / elbow?
- Can I see full sets of past bridal work, not just single hands?
Money and backup
- A written quote listing coverage, hours and any extras.
- Advance amount, balance timing, and the cancellation / reschedule policy.
- What's the backup plan if you fall ill on the day?
A professional will have clear answers to all of these. Vague answers on henna quality or backup are the red flags to watch.
When to book
For peak wedding season (November–February) and around Karva Chauth, enquire 2–3 months ahead — the best Bangalore artists take a limited number of brides per weekend and fill early. Booking early also gets you a trial slot and time to patch test the exact henna 48 hours before the function.
What it costs
Most Bangalore brides pay ₹5,000–₹25,000, driven by coverage (hands only vs hands, feet and full arms), design density, the artist's experience and the season. Get two or three quotes in the same format so you're comparing like with like. Full bands and what should be included are in bridal mehndi cost in Bangalore.
Red flags
- Can't or won't name the henna they use, or dismisses the patch-test request.
- Shows only single hero photos, never full sets of a bride's hands, feet and arms.
- No written quote, or the scope keeps changing.
- No backup artist for illness or a double-booking.
- Pushes "black henna" or a "guaranteed black" stain — walk away (why).
Green flags
- Suggests a style based on your references and outfit, and gives an honest hours estimate.
- Offers a trial and a patch test without being asked.
- Has a clear package: coverage, arm length, feet, touch-ups, aftercare card.
- Comfortable putting date, scope, price and cancellation terms in writing (a WhatsApp message is fine).
Prefer to supply the henna yourself?
Some families hand the artist cones they trust. Hennaya hand-rolls natural bridal-grade cones in Bangalore with delivery across Jayanagar, JP Nagar, Koramangala, HSR Layout, Indiranagar and Whitefield. Questions to ask at a glance
Copy this into your first message to any artist:
- Is my exact date free, and how many brides do you take that day?
- Will you personally apply my mehndi?
- What henna do you use — is it natural, body-art quality?
- Will you do a patch test with that henna 2–3 days before?
- What style do you suggest for my references, and how many hours?
- What's included — hands, feet, arm length? What's extra?
- Can I see three full sets of past bridal work?
- Total price in writing, advance, and cancellation policy?
- What's your backup plan if you're unwell on the day?
- Do you charge travel to my venue?
The trial
Book a trial 3–6 weeks out. Use it to finalise the layout, watch the exact henna develop over 48 hours (and patch test at the same time), confirm the hours, and place any personal motifs — initials, story elements. A trial that's rushed or done with different henna isn't worth much.
After you book
- Get the date, start time, scope, price and terms in one message you both keep.
- Pay the advance and save the receipt.
- Slot in the family and party mehndi with the same artist or a second one, in order of who needs the darkest stain.
- Diarise your pre-wedding skincare — no waxing, bleaching or facials on the arms in the last 1–2 weeks.
Booking family and guests too
Decide early whether the artist covers close family only (mothers, sisters — slot them into the bride's session) or all guests (needs one or two dedicated artists plus a stencil station). Ask for a per-hand rate for family and a per-hour rate for a guest artist so the mehndi function doesn't overrun on time or budget. More in the groom & family mehndi guide.
If something feels off
Trust it. An artist who won't name their henna, won't show full bridal sets, has no backup plan, or pushes a "guaranteed black" stain is telling you something. Bangalore has plenty of professionals who'll answer every question on this page without hesitation — keep looking until you find that fit.
Questions people ask
How far in advance should I book a bridal mehndi artist in Bangalore?
For peak wedding and festival dates, 2–4 months ahead. Popular artists take a limited number of brides per season.
How much does bridal mehndi cost in Bangalore?
It varies widely by artist, design density and coverage. Ask for a clear quote in writing that specifies hands, feet, up to where on the arm, and the number of hours included.
What henna will the artist use on my wedding day?
Ask directly. It should be natural, body-art-quality henna, freshly mixed. Request a patch test with that exact henna a couple of days before.
